The Cusco’s Vaginal Speculum Large (VM-VSCL) is a duck-bill bivalve speculum in the large size, manufactured from high-grade stainless steel for use in gynaecological examinations and procedures requiring full cervical visualisation. The Cusco’s pattern — with two opposed blades connected by a pivot point and held open by a thumb screw — provides stable, hands-free retraction of the vaginal walls without requiring the clinician to apply continuous manual pressure during the examination. This design makes it the standard speculum for Pap smear collection, cervical inspection, intrauterine contraceptive device (IUCD) insertion and removal, colposcopy preparation, and vaginal wall assessment in both primary care and specialist gynaecological settings. The stainless steel construction is resistant to repeated sterilisation without degradation of the blade surface or locking mechanism; the thumb screw should be cleaned and lubricated periodically to maintain smooth action.
