What Is the Silicone Infant Resuscitator?
The VM-RSSI (Hi-Care RESSILI) is a silicone bag-valve-mask resuscitator specifically designed for the neonatal and infant airway (patients ?10kg). The 350ml silicone bag is the smallest in the resuscitator range, delivering the precisely controlled small tidal volumes required for safe neonatal ventilation ? approximately 5?8ml/kg, or 15?70ml for a neonate. Three mask sizes (#0, #1, #2) are available to accommodate different neonatal and infant face sizes, from premature neonates through to larger infants.
Neonatal Resuscitation Importance
Approximately 10% of newborns require some form of respiratory support at birth, and 1% require active resuscitation with bag-valve-mask ventilation. The VM-RSSI is designed to meet the requirements of neonatal resuscitation as set out by the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) ? providing consistent, controlled ventilation with a pressure relief valve to prevent lung injury in the highly compliant neonatal chest. The 900ml oxygen reservoir provides adequate oxygen buffering for the neonatal oxygen flow requirements.
Components and Sterilisation
The VM-RSSI includes a patient valve with pressure relief valve, 350ml silicone bag, reservoir valve, and 900ml oxygen reservoir. Multiple mask sizes (#0, #1, #2) are available. The silicone construction is autoclavable for use across multiple patients in neonatal units and delivery suites. For paediatric (10?30kg) ventilation, see VM-RSSC. For adult ventilation, see VM-RSSA.
