Paediatric Fingertip SpO2 Monitoring in a Compact, Child-Friendly Design

The CONTEC CMS50Q1 Child is a fingertip pulse oximeter adapted for paediatric use, featuring a smaller clip aperture sized for children’s fingertips where a standard adult fingertip oximeter would be too large to achieve reliable contact with the sensor. In paediatric pulse oximetry, correct probe fit is critical ? a probe that does not make firm, consistent contact with the fingertip generates unreliable or absent readings, and a probe with excessive pressure on a small finger can cause discomfort and measurement error. The CMS50Q1 Child provides the same SpO2 measurement range (35?99%, ?2% accuracy in the 70?99% range) and pulse rate measurement (30?250 bpm) as the adult CMS50Q1, in a physically adapted format suitable for paediatric finger sizes in hospital, clinic and home monitoring contexts.

LED Display, Pulse Sound and Auto Power-Off

The CMS50Q1 Child features an LED display showing SpO2 and pulse rate values alongside a pulse bar graph that visually confirms signal acquisition quality. The pulse sound function provides an auditory beep with each detected pulse ? an additional confirmation cue that is particularly useful when monitoring restless or sleeping children where continuously watching the display is not always practical. Low battery indication and automatic power-off when no finger is detected conserve battery life during intermittent paediatric monitoring. Operation on 2 ? 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries provides extended continuous use without rechargeable battery infrastructure.

Paediatric SpO2 Monitoring in South African Clinical Practice

Pulse oximetry in children is used for monitoring during and after procedures requiring sedation or anaesthesia, in paediatric respiratory illness (pneumonia, bronchiolitis, asthma), post-operative recovery, and in home monitoring for children with chronic cardiorespiratory conditions. The CMS50Q1 Child provides a cost-effective, reliable paediatric SpO2 monitoring solution for South African paediatric wards, children’s hospitals, GP paediatric consulting rooms and home nursing care. Vital Medical supplies the CONTEC CMS50Q1 Child to South African healthcare providers and families requiring accurate, paediatric-appropriate blood oxygen monitoring.
