The BIOBASE BKM-P18III is a portable tabletop gravity displacement steam autoclave with an 18-litre chamber (Ø260×270mm), designed for reliable instrument sterilization in GP practices, dental surgeries, outpatient clinics, veterinary facilities, small hospital departments, and laboratory settings where a compact, self-contained sterilizer is required without the footprint of a full cabinet autoclave. The chamber accommodates standard instrument trays, wrapped surgical sets, glassware, and media containers, supporting the sterilization workload of a busy clinical room in a unit weighing just 12kg. Sterilization is achieved at 121°C or 126°C using saturated steam under pressure — the established method for achieving sterility assurance across a broad range of instrument types and materials.

Operation, Control, and Dual-Slot Manometer

The BKM-P18III offers both automatic and manual operation modes. In automatic mode, the unit manages temperature and sterilization time according to the selected programme and sounds an audible alarm at cycle completion — allowing staff to load the autoclave and continue other clinical tasks without needing to monitor the cycle. Where custom sterilization parameters are required, temperature and duration can be manually adjusted within the permitted range using the 1–99 minute programmable timer. The LCD display presents real-time cycle status throughout operation, and the dual-slot manometer simultaneously displays both chamber temperature (°C) and pressure (bar) at a glance — providing a continuous visual confirmation of chamber conditions without requiring the clinician to switch between readings.

Safety Systems and Applications

Four independent safety mechanisms protect operators and equipment during every cycle: automatic over-temperature protection cuts power if chamber temperature exceeds the set limit; automatic over-pressure protection prevents unsafe pressure build-up; an anti-dry water level indicator alerts the user before the heating element operates without sufficient water; and an audible alarm signals cycle completion. The BKM-P18III is powered at AC 220V / 50Hz with a 2kW heating element, and is suited to any South African clinical or laboratory setting requiring dependable, portable steam sterilization.
