BV-520 Vascular Doppler Detector for Arterial and Venous Assessment
The BV-520 is a pocket-sized vascular Doppler detector using an 8MHz continuous wave probe to detect and characterise arterial and venous blood flow patterns in peripheral vascular assessment ? a standard clinical technique for evaluating peripheral arterial disease, venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis screening, ankle-brachial index (ABI) measurement and pre- and post-operative vascular assessment. The 8MHz probe frequency is the clinical standard for peripheral vascular Doppler assessment of superficial vessels including the dorsalis pedis, posterior tibial, radial, ulnar, popliteal and superficial femoral arteries, as well as superficial venous structures in the lower extremity. Higher probe frequencies in this range provide better spatial resolution for superficial vessels compared to lower frequency cardiac or obstetric Doppler probes.

The BV-520’s 20-bit LED bar display provides a visual representation of blood flow signal intensity, allowing the clinician to locate the vessel and optimise probe angle for maximum Doppler signal strength. The audio output provides the characteristic Doppler blood flow sound ? biphasic or triphasic for normal peripheral arteries, monophasic for diseased or collateralised vessels ? enabling qualitative assessment of vascular patency and flow quality.
