What Is the Casualty Stitch Pack?
The VM-CSP16 is a 16-piece pre-assembled minor surgical set designed for wound closure (suturing) in casualty departments, GP procedure rooms, and clinic treatment areas. It brings together all the instruments needed for a single wound closure procedure in one ready-to-use pack, eliminating the need for separately picking and sterilising individual instruments for every case.
Contents and Clinical Use
The pack contains the essential instruments for soft tissue repair under local anaesthesia: needle holder for driving the suture needle, dissecting forceps (toothed) for tissue handling, suture scissors for cutting thread, scalpel handle for debridement where required, and wound retractors for exposure. Combined with the appropriate suture material, local anaesthetic, and sterile drapes, the VM-CSP16 provides everything needed for safe primary closure of lacerations up to approximately 10cm in length. The stainless steel tray included with the set serves as the sterile field during the procedure.
Infection Prevention and Reuse
All 16 instruments in the VM-CSP16 are manufactured from stainless steel and are autoclavable for reuse. After the procedure, instruments should be processed through CSSD ? decontaminated, inspected, wrapped, and re-sterilised ? before the next use. The stainless steel tray can be used as the sterile field during the procedure itself, reducing the need for additional sterile draping material.
