Battery Backup, Energy Saving and Jar Changeover
The Hospivac BR runs continuously on 220–230V AC mains. When mains power is unavailable, its internal rechargeable lead battery (12V 20A) provides 250 minutes of autonomous suction, which is more than 4 hours of uninterrupted operation, and recharges in 8 hours. This suits South African facilities where power continuity cannot be guaranteed. An energy-saving function uses a pressure sensor on the PCB to cut motor speed by 50% when the unit is switched on but not aspirating, which extends battery autonomy and reduces noise. An electronic jar-to-jar changeover system switches collection automatically to the second jar when the first is full, so suction is not interrupted mid-procedure.
