What Is the Episiotomy Pack?
The VM-EP6 is a 6-piece stainless steel obstetric instrument set containing the essential instruments for performing an episiotomy (a controlled perineal incision to facilitate delivery) and subsequent primary repair of the episiotomy wound. Having all required instruments pre-assembled in one sterile set reduces setup time and eliminates the risk of missing a critical instrument during a delivery that may require urgent episiotomy.
Contents and Clinical Use
The set contains: Rampley sponge holding forceps 25cm (for swabbing and maintaining a sterile field), Braun-Stadler episiotomy scissors 14.5cm (specifically designed for the mediolateral or midline episiotomy incision), Gillies tissue forceps 15cm 1?2 teeth (for wound edge handling during repair), Mayo-Hegar needle holder 18cm (for suturing the episiotomy wound), dental syringe (for local anaesthetic infiltration before the procedure), and operating scissors sh/bl straight 16.5cm (for suture cutting during repair). Together these instruments cover the complete episiotomy procedure from anaesthesia through to wound closure.
Quality and Sterilisation
All instruments in the VM-EP6 are manufactured from surgical-grade stainless steel and are autoclavable at 134?C (prevacuum) for reuse between patients. The set should be processed through CSSD after each use, inspected for instrument integrity, and re-assembled in sterile packaging. The VM-EP6 is suitable for hospital labour wards, obstetric units, and midwife-led birthing centres.
