Contec Doppler Foetal CMS800G 8.4 inch Screen with optional twins

The Contec Doppler Fetal Monitor CMS800G (VM-DOPCMS800G) is a compact electronic fetal monitor (EFM/CTG) providing simultaneous FHR and TOCO monitoring with an 8.4-inch 60° folding colour LCD display and integrated thermal printer. The 9-element 1MHz pulse Doppler transducer with autocorrelation signal processing detects FHR across a range of 50–210bpm (±2bpm accuracy, 1bpm resolution), with the normal range of 120–160bpm highlighted on screen. TOCO monitoring range: 0–100%, 1% resolution, manual zero control. Integrated thermal printer uses Z-fold thermal paper (112mm total / 104mm effective width) at print speeds of 1, 2, or 3cm/min. 12-hour data and waveform storage. Optional twins monitoring with a second ultrasound transducer. 3-hour built-in battery backup. RJ45 network interface for central monitoring connectivity. AC100–240V, 50/60Hz, Pmax=60VA. Dimensions: 320×260×80mm. Weight: 3.2kg. CE certified. Supplied with ultrasound transducer, TOCO transducer, remote marker, abdomen belt, record paper, power supply line, earth line, two fuses, and user manual. Available in South Africa from Vital Medical.

Contec Doppler Foetal CMS800G 8.4 inch Screen with optional twins

The Contec Doppler Fetal Monitor CMS800G (VM-DOPCMS800G) is a compact cardiotocograph (CTG) — also referred to as an electronic fetal monitor (EFM) — designed for intrapartum and antenatal fetal surveillance in labour wards, delivery rooms, and antenatal assessment units. Cardiotocography is the simultaneous continuous recording of fetal heart rate (FHR) and uterine contraction activity (TOCO — tocodynamometry), and remains the standard of care for intrapartum fetal surveillance in obstetric practice globally and in South African maternity services. The CMS800G displays both traces, numerical values, and real-time waveforms simultaneously on an 8.4-inch colour LCD that folds to 60° for optimal bedside visibility in variable room configurations. The FHR is detected by a 9-element 1MHz pulse Doppler ultrasound transducer using autocorrelation signal processing, which improves signal reliability across varying fetal positions, patient habitus, and gestational ages. FHR detection range is 50–210bpm with 1bpm resolution and ±2bpm accuracy; the normal FHR range of 120–160bpm is automatically highlighted on the display for immediate visual reference, supporting rapid clinical assessment without manual range-checking.

Integrated Thermal Printer, Twins Option, and 12-Hour Data Storage

The CMS800G’s integrated thermal printer uses Z-fold thermal paper with a total printing width of 112mm and an effective printing width of 104mm, matching the standard CTG paper format used in South African obstetric documentation. Print speed is selectable at 1, 2, or 3cm/min, providing the paper-speed flexibility required by institutional protocol. The CTG trace header records data, time, TOCO trend graph, paper speed, FHR type, and FHR trend graph on each printout — providing a complete, self-documenting clinical record for the patient file. The continuous CTG paper record generated by the integrated printer serves both the immediate clinical assessment function and the legal and medicolegal record function required in obstetric practice. The 12-hour data and waveform storage capacity allows retrospective review of the complete monitoring record within a shift without reference to the paper trace, supporting case review and handover. The TOCO channel measures uterine contraction frequency, duration, and relative intensity with a range of 0–100%, 1% resolution, non-linear error ≤±10%, and manual zero control. A manual fetal movement marker button — and supplied remote marker accessory — allows the patient to record perceived fetal movements on the CTG trace. The optional twins monitoring function enables simultaneous CTG monitoring of both fetuses in a twin pregnancy using two ultrasound transducers, an important capability in obstetric units managing a significant twin delivery caseload.

Battery Backup, Network Connectivity, and Clinical Deployment in South Africa

The CMS800G provides 3 hours of built-in battery backup, maintaining fetal monitoring continuity during power interruptions. In the South African clinical context, where load-shedding is a regular operational reality in both public and private maternity facilities, uninterrupted fetal monitoring during power outages is a direct patient safety requirement — not a convenience feature. The 3-hour battery duration covers the majority of scheduled load-shedding periods, and the unit automatically switches to battery power without interrupting the monitoring trace or triggering alarm conditions. An RJ45 network interface enables connection to a central monitoring station or hospital information system, supporting multi-room CTG monitoring from a central nurses’ station in higher-capacity labour wards. The power supply operates across AC100–240V, 50/60Hz — compatible with South African mains supply without adaptation. At 3.2kg and 320×260×80mm, the CMS800G is compact and portable for use across antenatal assessment units, ward-based monitoring, and fixed delivery room installation. The unit is supplied complete with ultrasound transducer, TOCO transducer, remote marker, abdomen belt, record paper, power supply line, earth line, two fuses, and user manual. Available in South Africa from Vital Medical, the VM-DOPCMS800G is suited to public and private labour wards, antenatal assessment units, maternity hospitals, and obstetric clinics requiring a full-function, CE-certified CTG monitor with integrated printer.
